To get us started (because we're gonna jump right in on June 23rd!) here's your first homework! 10 steps to get you thinking and creating the space you love.
(feel free to speak, write, paint, sing, or mime your answers. either way, make them real for yourself! we'll be checking in with them throughout the course)
1. Take an honest look around you house.
Close your eyes, take a breath, then open them. What do you see? What feeling do you get? How does your body respond? What are you noticing?
2. What do you like about what you see?
It could be specific items, the way the light comes in, the color of the walls, or the warmth. Acknowledge the parts that you love and let yourself be appreciative of them.
3. Now ask, what don't you like about what you see?
Is it how you feel or think when you're here? Is it the physical sensations or the thoughts that become apparent? What happens to your body when you see things you don't like? What emotions come up?
4. What do you want instead?
Let yourself dream and envision your ideal space. What would be happening there? What would be possible? How would you feel? What would you do? Who would you be?
5. From that vision, decide on the purpose of your home.
How do you want your space to serve you? What activities does it need to support? What should be no longer allowed? For example, there will be a lot of guests and parties. And, there will be no more dust bunnies and cobwebs!
6. What feeling do you want from your home?
Is it relaxation and serenity or invigoration and cheerfulness? Connection and joy or functionality and purpose? Get clear! This will be our guiding star!
7. Whose support do you need on this journey?
What specifically can they do to support you? What will be helpful? What would be of disservice?
8. Go ask for it!
Share your intentions and your needs, no matter how big or small, with your support group. Unless you live alone you will need your family members on board to make the process easy and fun for you and inspiring and motivating for them. Even if it's your pet bird, go ask them :)
9. How will you sabotage yourself?
Super important information, so pay attention and definitely take notes.
What will you do when you're overwhelmed, tired, or stuck? How do you hide, shut down, push back? What will bring you back? Who? How?
10. How will you take care of yourself during the 6 weeks?
What will nourish you? What will you do to recharge, to relax, to celebrate. Put it on your calendar! Big celebrations are up ahead!
